Time off

Took some time off to pursue another passion of mine. Animation is something I’ve been working towards for a few years now and soon I will be applying to Pixar. It is just an internship but I know it pay off big. Excited to get back to work on these though. Been itching to grind.

Finally got around to it.

I finally did it. I put a post about beveling. It is probably my favorite. I was worried I wouldn’t know how to explain it, because it is a tab bit difficult. I think I did ok though. As all ways you guys can be the judge of the information. So it’s complete. The basics of the basics. I’ve got a knife in the works now so hopefully an ebook will be in the future. Thanks again and I hope you enjoy.

grinding

I’ve been a little busy but here soon I’m going to try to get the grinding section up. It is the hardest one to write I about I think. I’ve been thinking about how I want to approach this but without being able to show how I actually grind it is fairly difficult. It is in the works so no worries. I’m trying to get it to make sense on paper without sounding to text-book. Stay tuned to check it out!

October 16th – 20th

Alright guys, I’m taking some time off work. A) I’m moving, B) I’m making a knife for my buddy and possibly his wife. I wanted to do a matching kitchen knife for them, but if I screw one up they’ll have to share. It’s out of my comfort zone but that’s what you need to do sometimes. It’s how you grow. So I will be doing that and possibly putting together an ebook with steps that I take to make a knife. Pictures, text, all that good stuff. Idk if I’m gonna charge for it yet. If anything it’ll be just $5 or $10, nothing outrageous. Everyone be on the lookout. I haven’t made a knife in a while so I’m stoked to get back to the grinder!

Another Update

Hey there. I’m trying to get down everything I know on these screens but it is taking a lot longer than anticipated. But still stick around and I hope I’m helping someone better there skills or getting them to the right track to start making knives. Also I had an idea to start making  a how to ebook. It’s still in the idea phase but who knows. Maybe one day. More to come! Thanks for checking me out.

Updated

Just updated Simple steel. Gave some thoughts on O1 tool steel. I will try and get something going about heat treating and tempering. After that I’ll get into grinding and filing, so stay tuned!

Mission Statement

Hello out there! I have started this little site to hopefully help whoever make a hobby out of knife making. I do not claim to be the best (their are plenty of people out there WAY better than me) nor should you read into this as a site to help you start a business. What I hope to accomplish is share what I have found over the years (so far a total of 4) and how I offer it is in a kind of layman’s terms information. Doing tons of research that in the end is nice to know but something I really never use. You can watch tons of Youtube videos and everyone you watch is going into a ton of detail about grinding, sanding, satin vs mirror finish, bevel angles, wood, wood working, and everyone’s favorite…..heat treating. This can all be very intimidating so you might be hesitant to get started. Well, I’m here to say don’t worry about all that stuff (not now anyways). All you need to get started is a piece of scrap metal and some old wood. If you have any questions leave a comment. Hopefully I will get a subscription going soon so I can send out updates and maybe some tips and tricks. Until then thanks for stopping by and keep checking back for updates!
